Colorado Wind Potential

Colorado has great potential to develop wind energy resources and is proving that through on the ground installations. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) reports that Colorado is ranked 8th in the U.S. for developed capacity and 11th in the U.S. for potential capacity. This interactive map contains a series of point source wind energy estimates based on collected meteorological data overlaid on the results from a mesoscale wind energy estimation model. This potential wind resource estimator allows you (the user) to explore potential wind energy generation by mousing over the area of interest and seeing potential generation results for residential, commercial, and industrial sized wind turbines.

The point source data is available through Colorado State University's anemometer loan program and the mesoscale mapping was developed through the Senate Bill 91 Report. Additional information on the SB91 taskforce is also available.
